Torchlight written by Amin Jan Sayed
´d been wandering that bleak country lane,
I cursed the darkness and the pouring rain.
I came across
a torch-lit house,
a trembling joy slipped off my mouth,
I ran with torchlight* in my hand,
yes with torchlight in my hand.
She introduced herself and seized
my hand to guide me
to a chair and then to her cheeks.
Oh, she put the lights off …
…yet she left a torchlight burning
she left a torchlight burning outside
she left a torchlight burning outside, outside in the hall.
I left the house in summer,
roamed the parched and rainless country,
then set out for strange lands,
I got back with that bleak void in my heart
and with torchlight in my hand …
yes with torchlight in my hand
with a torchlight I had come full circle just to find her again
[Aphorism:] On well lit roads we drive alone
taking love anywhere but home.
Painful days,
bodies entwined on a bloodred sofa
taking turns in crying,
for grief and care we almost died.
She left the torchlight burning
She left the torchlight burning on
She left the torchlight burning outside in the hall.
